Northeast Workforce Alliance
The Northeast Workforce Alliance is a forum composed of three
northeastern North Carolina Workforce Development Boards (WDBs)
and the primary economic development organization in the
northeast region.
Member Workforce Development Boards are the Northeastern WDB
located in Hertford, the Region Q WDB located in Washington and
the Turning Point WDB located in Rocky Mount, and the economic
development member is North Carolina’s Northeast Commission
located in Edenton.
The Alliance was formed in 2008 to
develop processes and infrastructures to formalize regional
collaboration and limit addressing workforce development (aka
workforce preparedness) and economic development issues on an ad
hoc basis each time a demand is placed on the economic and
workforce development systems. Together, the two systems in the
northeast region form an alliance dedicated to working
regionally toward greater prosperity for workers, job seekers
and the business community. This greater prosperity can best be
achieved through broad cooperation and collaboration among
members that will ensure near immediate response readiness to
economic development opportunities. Those opportunities may be
represented by new local business that brings jobs, by existing
local business that expands and creates more jobs, or even an
existing local business that needs some economic intervention in
order to survive a temporary business downturn and avoid
closure.
North Carolina’s Northeast
Commission and the Northeastern, Region Q and Turning Point
Workforce Development Boards are working daily as a regional
collaborative body to promote economic opportunity and
prosperity for the people and businesses of northeastern North
Carolina. The Northeast Commission strives to create and retain
jobs, and the Workforce Development Boards complement the
Commission’s economic development efforts by ensuring that local
workers are trained and prepared for those jobs.
